The John D and Catherine T McArthur Foundation has been researching how education can be reimaged to have a more positive learning experience on the Gen X, GenY and Millenials: ""We must create new ways and places to learn, new and more rewarding roles for parents and teachers, new approaches to assess learning as it takes place, and, most importantly, a new focus on fostering passion, creativity, innovation, and the skills needed in the 21st century workforce."
Re-Imagining Learning in the 21st Century web site
Examples:
- Digital Youth Network : -- a hybrid digital literacy program that creates opportunities for youth to engage in learning environments that span both school and out-of-school context. It combines the affordances of the different contexts where youth spend their time into one learning environment that not only develops youth's new media literacies but also creates meaningful opportunities for youth to use their new media literacies. It is a model for the construction of a new youth-serving institution that is not bounded by walls nor time of day.
- YouMedia : YouMedia @ CPL is an innovative, 21st century learning space created to connect young adults, books, media and institutions throughout the city in one dynamic space designed to inspire collaboration and creativity.
