Lamar Institute of Technology students won 24 medals at the 2010 College/Postsecondary SkillsUSA State Conference, held in San Antonio on March 5 and 6, 2010
The seven Gold medal winners are: Brian Roberts, Action Skills; Clinton Kyle, Computer Maintenance; Shad Peveto, Firefighting; Anthony Frye, First-Aid/CPR; Shannon Kitchen, Open Job Skills Demonstration; Ralph Nesthill, Related Technical Math; and Clint Gudier, Telecommunications Cabling.
The four silver medals winners are: Alfonso McWilliams, Culinary Arts; Travis Meloncon, Firefighting; Clifton Pinson, Job Skills Demonstration A and Mechantronics Team 1; and Brian Bucklew, Telecommunications Cabling.
Bronze medalists are: Ralph Nesthill, Electronics Technology; Shannon Kitchen, Extemporaneous Speaking; Michael McKee, Firefighting; John Hornsby, First-Aid/CPR; Phillip LaRocca, HVAC; and Donald Martel, Welding.
LIT students also won two medals in Web Design-Team, and three medals in Welding Fabrication Team, but are waiting for the results to be clarified at a later date.
Forty-one students traveled to the competition, which pits postsecondary students against each other in various competitions related to their fields of study. Gold medal winners are eligible to participate in the National SkillsUSA Championships in Kansas City, Mo., on June 21-26.
